Blind Guides

You. If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit. Matthew 15 verse 14 the story is told about a sweet little old lady who was traveling on an Amtrak train. When the conductor came to the car and asked for the ticket, the lady searched frantically through her purse and pockets without finding it. Exasperated, she blurted out, this is terrible. I can't believe this is happening to me. I know I have a ticket, but for the life of me I cannot remember what I did with it. The conductor very patiently consoled the woman. Don't worry, he said. You can pay me directly, and then when you find the ticket, you can bring it to me and get your money back. But that's not the point, cried the lady. The point is that I've got to find that ticket because I don't remember where I'm going. Not knowing where we are going is just as bad as being lost in the woods. Even the thought of being in a strange place or on an unfamiliar road is more than a little intimidating, isn't it? That's why most of us want a gps on our cell phone or at the very least, an old school street map. The key, of course, is having a gps or street map that is accurate. It doesn't do much good to get faulty directions. The lady in my gps has been confused at times and had me going in circles. That added significant time to my journey. If you get lost in the woods and come across another guy who is also lost in the woods, following him isn't likely to be much of an advantage. If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit. Whether we're traveling on a business trip, a vacation, going to a new doctor, or just trying to get to a Starbucks in an unfamiliar town, having the right directions is essential. Navigating our way through life requires good directions, too. How can I be a good husband, wife, parent, or Christian? What are the rules? How do I get the job done without making mistakes or messing things up? Fortunately, God has provided us with a roadmap, a gps that can guide us through life. It's called the Bible. One of my favorite verses is psalm 119 105. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. God's word gives us all the directions we need to get us where we are supposed to go. It is 100% accurate and never fails. Not knowing where we are, where we are going, or how to get there is scary. Thank God for his word, without which we would be lost and stranded for eternity.
