Unchanging

Transcript
All your words are true. All your righteous laws are eternal. Psalm 119 160 truth does not change with time and culture. But there are some people who want to change the truth. They want us to rewrite history and reinterpret the Bible so that it is politically correct and in line with what is viewed to be normal in modern culture. Times have changed, they say. Society has progressed and the church has evolved. So what the Bible says cannot be what God actually means. These individuals may mean well and have the best intentions, but they are badly mistaken. They may be sincere, but with due respect, they are sincerely wrong. God does not change some try to argue that we are a New Testament people living in New Testament times, but the simple biblical fact is that the God of the Old Testament is the God of the New Testament. This was never even a question until recent years and is proved in many of the great hymns of the christian faith. Great is thy faithfulness, says one, thou changest not. In Malachi three six, God himself declares, I do not change. In the New Testament, the writer of Hebrews says, jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13 eight, it is the same. In passage after passage, either stated directly or unquestionably implied, God doesn't change, and God's word doesn't change either. The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever, writes Peter. God's rules, his laws, and his commandments do not change. So if we disagree with something the Bible says, it's not the Bible that needs to change, it's us. The Bible doesn't change, but the Bible should change us. We must re examine our opinions and beliefs and bring them in line with God's word. We cannot change God's word to match our opinions, the political mood of the day, or the popular view held by other people. It is not what we say, but what God says that determines what is good or bad, right or wrong, true or false. God doesn't change, and neither does is God's word. His words are true and the truth does not change.
