Behold, I am making everything new. Revelation 21, verse five baskin Robbins features 31 flavors of ice cream that doesn't matter much to some people when it comes to ice cream, some people are very narrow minded. To them, it's not really ice cream unless it's vanilla or chocolate or caramel fudge. These folks turn up their nose at anything but what they think is the real deal. I used to be a one flavor guy myself. If it wasn't chocolate, why bother? Then one day I got rebellious. Instead of just walking up to the counter and ordering two scoops of my way, I asked for a sample of coffee flavored ice cream. To my surprise, I discovered that it was pretty tasty, too. There is nothing wrong with plain old chocolate, mind you, but people who have never even tried something else, not even chocolate chip, are really cheating themselves out of a tasty experience that can also delight their taste buds. When I visit an ice cream store these days, I make it a practice to try out some of the other flavors available. Okay, bubble gum flavor doesn't do much for me, but mint chocolate chip, strawberry, and even blue raspberry sherbet are pretty awesome. I haven't turned my back on chocolate roots yet, but instead of ordering two scoops of the tried and true, I order just one, then order a second scoop of some other flavor. I have learned that there is more than one way to do ice cream, and I'm a bigger man for giving new flavors a go. Want to know something? What can be said about ice cream can also be said about church. There are as many good and godpleasing ways to worship the Lord and study his word as there are flavors in an ice cream store. Each is unique in ways and similar in others. None will be completely satisfying to everyone, of course, and everyone will have his or her favorites. But unless we're willing to give some new things a try, how will we ever know if it is good for us or not? God said, I am making everything new. I wonder how those who are stuck on vanilla are going to handle that.
