The whole body grows and builds itself up in love as each part does its work. Ephesians chapter four, verse 16 in the New Testament, Christianity is never portrayed as real apart from connection with the church. This connection is more than simply having one's name listed on a membership role. To be connected means being a fully responsible worker who is fully accountable for his or her participation in the ministry of the church. When reading the New Testament, it becomes very clear that Christians are expected to be connected with a local church where the gifts God gives them can be used. In this way, the church can be successful in serving Christ and others. No follower of Christ has been given a ticket to sit on the sidelines to watch others work. Every Christian is to be actively engaged in the work of ministry. If you are a Christian and have no job in the church, find one. It might be teaching a Sunday school class or a home Bible study. If you have mechanical knowhow, you could help with maintenance of church property or vehicles. Do you have a green thumb? Most churches need individuals who can mow lawns and tend flower gardens. The point is that there are countless opportunities to put your godgiven talents, abilities and interests to work in the church. When you find a place of service, be responsible and carry out the work assigned to you. Do your work well and in the right way. There is no excuse for being careless or shoddy in the work that we do for the Lord and his church. The growth and success of the church are due in large part to the work of her people. When we work together, God does great things.
